9 Really Weird Beauty Tricks That Actually Work
1. Make your eyelashes extra-long with the help of a cotton ball.
After applying your usual one coat of mascara, take a lash/brow brush and rub it onto a cotton ball. This will transfer some of the cotton ball fibers onto the brush. Swipe the brush onto your lashes. Apply another coat of mascara and repeat as many times as you want! You'll have major lashes in no time.
2. Use red lipstick as concealer primer to mask dark circles.
It sounds too good to be true, but YouTuber Deepica Mutyala has come up with the most amazing way to hide the fact that you only slept a few hours last night. Grab any red-orange-y lipstick and apply it under your eyes and on your eyelids (anywhere you're a bit darker) with a concealer brush. Then, just apply your fave concealer right on top of it. You might look a little silly during the process, but you'll be amazed at the difference.
3. Heat an eyelash curler with a hairdryer for seriously curled lashes.
You have to be super careful with this trick, but the results are totally worth it. Blast any metal eyelash curler with heat from a hairdryer. Then, let it cool until it's just warm to the touch. Do NOT push the hot curler right onto your eyelashes — you'll burn yourself! Curling your lashes when the tool is warm will still yield amazing results.
4. Use a spoon to create the perfect cat eye.
Even if you're a cat eye pro, mistakes happen. It's so easy to draw the line too far, or to smudge it the opposite direction. Use the straight side of the spoon to create the line, applying the eyeliner right next to the spoon. Then use a portion of the spoon's curve to create the all-important swoop, and fill in. You'll look like a total pro!
5. Rub a potato under your arms to lighten dark armpits.
There are a bunch of reasons your underarms might be darker than the rest of your skin. It can happen from stubble after shaving, deodorant left behind, or the build-up of dead skin cells. To lighten your underarms naturally, just cut a potato in half and rub it into your armpits morning and night. Potatoes contain the enzyme catecholase, which has natural lightening properties. Magic!
6. Apply blush under your face makeup for a more natural look.
Have you ever noticed that after you apply blush, your cheeks sometimes look a little too rosy? The color might be perfect for picture day, but it's a bit too much in real life. To get a more subtle look, first apply your blush, and then add on BB cream or foundation over it. The blush will show through beautifully.
7. Use a flashcard to keep mascara from getting on your eyelids.
There's nothing worse than mascara smears when you're just trying to get glam lashes. Try putting a thick index card (some girls use credit cards, but only go that route if you've got the world's cleanest card) against your top lash line for a flawless application. Any leftover mascara will smear onto the card instead of your eyelid.
8. Add a hair clip into the middle of your pony for mega volume.
Is your ponytail looking a little sad? Put your hair in a high pony and section into top and bottom sections. Clip a small butterfly clip into the middle of the bottom section and let the top part hang over it. Instant volume!
9. Flat iron your braids for natural waves.
First, braid all your hair into six sections. Pancake the braids (stretch them out flat) and then flat iron them, with the iron a little hotter than you would normally use. Take them out for loose, boho waves.
