The Beautiful Story Behind The Most Unexpected Marriage Proposal Ever
Next stop: One of the most romantic proposals we've ever seen in an extraordinarily unlikely setting. While proposals typically catch the bride by surprise, this one astonished a train car full of unsuspecting passengers on the downtown 4 train on May 19, 2013 in New York City.
The video begins with a violinist who is quickly joined by a guitarist (a subway norm) performing an impressive set of songs. A photographer soon comes into focus, snapping pictures of the concert. Suddenly (after the 5:30 mark), a subway passenger leaning against the door comes forward, bends down on one knee and proposes to his girlfriend. Swoon! Even more swoon-worthy is the adorable story behind the sweet proposal.

As you might have guessed, the performers weren't just a random subway act. Treesa Arikunnel Varghese, from Yonkers, NY, has always enjoyed subway musicians, so her then-boyfriend, Sishir Varghese, turned to YouTube and found violinist Rhett Price, who arrived from Boston that same morning. Price brought along the guitarist after the second violinist that was supposed to join him couldn't make it. Although everything looked spontaneous, the making of the proposal was quite the production.

"Sishir hired the photographer, and got two of his friends to chat with him and the musicians outside of Grand Central Station to watch for us as we went in to take the subway," Treesa tells WomansDay.com exclusively. "Without me knowing, they followed us from outside all the way through the station and into the same subway car." The couple was on their way to Brooklyn to meet their parents for lunch, or so she thought.
Once on the train, the concert started, with Treesa thinking it was just a "spontaneous jam." "As they played together, the photographer was taking pictures of everything. I thought he was a tourist the whole time. Sishir's two friends were also videotaping, but since everyone on the train had their cameras out, I didn't even notice."
The songs the duo performed were also carefully selected; they're all Treesa's favorites and remind her of him. If you listen carefully, the last song, Marry You by Bruno Mars, was rewritten to say, "It's a beautiful night, on this subway car with you. Hey, Treesa. Sishir wants to marry you." "My jaw dropped as he got down on one knee. The whole train started cheering!"
After the proposal, he surprised her (again!) by bringing in their closest friends and family to celebrate their engagement nearby.
So why did Sishir choose the subway as his proposal location in the first place? "The first time we said 'I love you' to each other was on the subway ride home together." Aww!
The happy pair married on June 14, 2014. Congratulations, Treesa and Sishir!
