Expert Tips For Successful Potty Training

Potty training is one aspect of parenting life that parents will want all the tips on!

There comes a time in the life of a new parent when they are ready to stop wiping poop from their child’s bum, and start wiping poop from a child’s toilet seat.

Potty training can sometimes be a lesson in frustration, but with the right tactics, a little bit of patience, and a child that is ready to pee and poo like the adults do, you can get your child to start using the potty successfully, with few accidents in between.

Potty training the (relatively) stress-free way

Make it Fun

For boys, one of the easiest ways to potty train is to make it fun. Throw a few pieces of cereal into the toilet and tell him he should try to aim for it. Learning those aiming skills quickly speeds the process of toilet training along.

Let Them Be Naked

One of the reasons that most babies do not know how to hold in their pee and poop is because they feel something surrounding them and protecting them. So for a day or two, have them walk around the house bare bottomed. They will be more likely to hold in their pee and poop, and then you can take them to the bathroom every 30 minutes or so to see if they need to go.

Show Them How It’s Done

Children learn by seeing, so you may need to hide your shame a bit and show your child in person how to pee. Once they see you doing it, they’ll understand their own bodies more. Don’t worry, most children forget everything from that age anyway!

Three Cheers!

Above all else, make sure that you are always cheering your child on loudly, as though every time they pee and poop it is amazing. Do this for a long, long time, until you are confident that your child knows how to go on their own (could be many months).

Potty training is not only a relief for the parents, it is also a milestone for kids, who at that age want to be more like their mum and dad than anything else.

It’s a process, but it is a fulfilling one that all parents will go through.
