The Unusual Pregnancy Side Effect That Has The Internet Talking
Pregnancy symptoms can be lumped into two categories.
There are the ones you knew about, like morning sickness and swollen ankles. Then there are those WTF sort of symptoms that have you searching for things you never thought you'd be googling, like vulval varicosities and metal mouth.
While many expectant mums might be hush-hush about the weirder side effects of pregnancy, another mum has chosen to post her WTF pregnancy side effect to Instagram ... and people are loving her for it.
"BEHOLD my HAIRY STOMACH"
Podcaster and presenter, Monique Bowley posted an image of her pregnant stomach to Instagram in order to balance out "perfect Instagram pregnancy posts."
"BEHOLD my HAIRY STOMACH," she wrote in the caption.
She apologises to her obstetrician, Dr Joseph Sgroi declaring she's "not shaving it down" for him anymore.
"Your doppler will have to deal. #sorrynotsorry #advancedhairyeahyeah."
The image is pretty impressive actually, and could quite possibly even be mistaken for a dad tum, which just makes us love her even more.
The internet also appreciated the injection of honesty amidst the sea of Insta-perfection.
"Not swanning around in yoga pants and eating kale chips like I thought," commented one woman, who said she is 10 weeks pregnant herself. "Instead it's PJs for days and cheese burgers for breakfast. Thanks for keeping it real."
Another commented, "YASSSS!!! Praise the lord! Some honesty in a sea of fake shit and filters!!"
One person even admitted to having "the hairiest butt cheeks and lower back through pregnancy," while many thanked Bowley for "keeping it real" and another declared the post as "IMPORTANT".
Dr Sgroi responds to reassure Bowley and her almost 10,000 followers: "Don’t worry @moniquebowley! This is mere baby fluff and very common! Hormones make body hair grow during pregnancy and it will fall out afterwards, between 1-6 months PP. Even hair that has been lasered grows back during pregnancy, much to many’s surprise!"
And of course, he's right!
According to KidsHealth, women may experience changes in hair and nail texture and growth during pregnancy. Hair can grow faster and fall out less due to the hormones present during pregnancy. This may also lead to hair in unexpected places such as the face, stomach and/or nipples. Of course, this does all go back to normal once the pregnancy hormones have subsided.
"I’m calling it Hagrid and I love it sick."
