The Friendliest Cities In America
The citizens of Minneapolis are not afraid of cold shoulders. Despite its bone-chilling winter temps, the larger of the Twin Cities shows a brand of friendliness that's a few degrees warmer than the rest of the country's. But topping the list of sociable cities is easier when you're surrounded by open spaces, says Nicholas Williams, assistant superintendent of recreation services for Minneapolis's parks department. "Every resident of Minneapolis lives within six blocks of a park," he says, and those natural meeting places keep the community connected. Minneapolitans are more likely to play sports, volunteer, and help their neighbors. All of which makes a local park the amenity with the healthiest return on investment.
