Do Women Dream About Sex As Much As Men Do?

Morning wood is very real for men - the experts suggest it may even mean you have a healthy penis. But it might also be the result of some very dirty dreams overnight. So that begs the question: what is she thinking about overnight? And did it involve you under her? We finally have an answer thanks to new research.

Findings published in the journal Psychology & Sexuality suggest that women aged between 16 and 30 are having more sex dreams than ever. And this puts them on par with their male peers.

Previous studies suggest that only four per cent of women experienced sex dreams, however, study authors suspect this is down to previous shame associated with taboo thoughts.

Surveying 2907 volunteers aged between 16 and 92 about their overnight thoughts, researchers found that for both men and women, around 18 per cent of all dreams were dirty.

In the 16 to 30 age bracket, men had sex dreams a quarter of the time compared to 22 per cent of women. Interesting, only 25 to 30 per cent of these erotic dreams included popular public figures.

“The gender difference in the percentage of erotic dreams in men and women aged 16 to 30 in the present study is lower than that found in a 1966 study, which could reflect the evolution induced in modern societies by the feminism movements,” the study authors wrote.

“One might speculate that younger women in modern society deal with sexuality more openly than older women of previous generations.”

Ever wondered why you had thought about a colleague or a sex with a stranger overnight? Here are 5 common sex dreams and what they mean.
